Swindon Advertiser Weekly Article - 10th January

For many, this week was the first week back at work after the festive break and for Swindon’s thousands of commuters, the first week back on the train.  January is the harbinger of New Year optimism, but also the rail fare rises that are an unpleasant, but not unsurprising, post-Christmas cost. Our railways must be paid for.  It is about striking the balance between taxpayer and traveller who are largely one and the same.  Decades of underinvestment has led to poor punctuality, hopeless reliabil...

Swindon Advertiser Weekly Article - 3rd January

As we toasted in 2014, my friend and I decided to respond to a plea from Swindon Supermarine FC for fans to come along and help clear the pitch first thing in the morning.  A few glasses of wine had helped fill us with confidence that the rain was surely nearly at an end, so an early morning start would help secure the key match against Guildford.  Keith and I arrived, wellies on, pitch forks in hand at 9am, but alas we were greeted with surface water across the pitch and the rain set in for the...

Justin Digs In To Try And Save Supermarine's New Year's Day Clash

Justin Digs In To Try And Save Supermarine's New Year's Day Clash

Even the intervention of North Swindon MP, Justin Tomlinson, was not enough to help Swindon Supermarine get their New Year’s Day clash with Guildford played. Justin, a well-known supporter of the Southern League Division One South & West club who regularly attends both home and away games, was one of the volunteers that turned up yesterday in an attempt to help get the fixture on. It was hoped that if the pitch was forked enough then it would absorb enough water to make the surface playabl...

New Year Message From Justin Tomlinson MP

New Year Message From Justin Tomlinson MP

The Government's focus during 2013 was the continued rebuilding of our economy, and it will continue to be the main priority in 2014. The economy is strengthening and 1.6 million new jobs have been created in the private sector since 2010. The deficit left by Labour is down by a third and inflation and unemployment have both fallen. Our manufacturing and construction industries continue to thrive and for the first time in living memory, Britain is now a net exporter of cars. This is thanks to th...

Swindon Advertiser Weekly Article - 27th December

As the roast turkey gives way first to turkey sandwiches, then to turkey parcels and finally to stock and wintery soup, thoughts turn to New Year and its reflections upon the year that has nearly passed and the one yet to come. Whilst the family gathers round to count in the New Year, we all take a moment of gratitude for the last twelve months, raise a glass to those no longer with us and start to think about those elusive resolutions for 2014. I for one am very grateful for 2013.  Jo and I cel...
