CapX Article: Kemi Badenoch Is An Unapologetic Conservative Who'll Always Be Straight With Voters

Last week will live long in the memory for many. Never before have we seen such scenes in Westminster. For those of us in the fray it feels like a dramatic end of an era. But for those outside of the bubble, beyond the boundaries of SW1 and away from the blow-by-blow accounts of our rolling media, the story will be viewed very differently. Political infighting sees Prime Minister toppled; meanwhile the cost of living crisis rages on, our tax burden remains at its highest in decades and is set to...

Swindon Advertiser Column - A Week Is A Long Time In Politics

Deep breath! As fast as I have tried to type this, events continue to overtake! When I caught the train to Parliament on Monday, I was not expecting to see a change in PM, but ‘a week is a long time in politics!’. Very quickly it became clear colleagues were unhappy, the vote of confidence only a few weeks early which in theory granted the PM 12 months grace was deemed not sufficient. Whilst I was a supporter of the PM, his ultimate resignation became inevitable as he lost the trust of colleag...

Swindon Advertiser Column - Summer Reading Challenge Will Encourage Children To Love Books

This week I was pleased to host an event in Parliament launching the Summer Reading Challenge – the UK’s biggest free reading for pleasure programme for children. This is the seventh time I’ve hosted the event in Parliament, and it was brilliant to see MPs enthusiastically supporting our event. Taking place annually, the challenge encourages children aged 4-11 to keep reading during the summer holidays. Children’s reading can dip during the long summer holidays if they don’t have regular access ...

Half A Million Benefit Claimants Get Jobs In Under 6 Months

North Swindon MP Justin Tomlinson has welcomed new that half a million people have been supported into work in less than 6 months thanks to “Way to Work”, a government drive to get jobseekers into vacancies. Launched in January, ministers set the target of supporting 500,000 jobseekers through the jobcentre and into employment by the end of June. This coincided with the need to fill a record number of job vacancies as the economy rebounded after the pandemic. Unemployment now stands at an almost...

Public Safety Boost As Major Justice Reforms Come Into Force

Public Safety Boost As Major Justice Reforms Come Into Force

The Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Act equips police with the powers and tools they need to combat crime while overhauling sentencing laws to protect the public and keep serious sexual and violent offenders behind bars for longer. These include making whole-life orders the starting point for pre-meditated child murder, introducing mandatory life sentences for those who unlawfully kill emergency workers in the line of duty, and ending the automatic early release of offenders deemed to be a ...

Recently rebranded, the Neuro Wellbeing Centre is an inclusive wellbeing Centre dedicated to helping people lead happy, healthy, independent lives. As a fully accessible centre, it is the only facility of...
