The Government's new Right Care Right Person approach to how the police manage mental health inccidents is set to free up 1 million more policing hours.
The new approach will see police only respond to mental health inccidents if there is a safety risk or crime. Instead inccidents that don't require police assistance will be referred to the correct partner agency.
Estimates show that implementing the principles of Right Care Right Person could save around one million police officer hours each year.
