North Swindon MP Justin Tomlinson has welcomed news that Amazon is to open a new fulfilment centre in Swindon, bringing more than 1,000 jobs to the town.
The centre will take up the 50,000 square foot warehouse at Symmetry Park in South Marston, which was purchased in October for £200million by Legal and Management Investment.
The Symmetry Park sight is one of a number of new Amazon fulfilment centres, with other centres opening on Gateshead and Dartford. In total, Amazon hopes to create 10,000 jobs across the UK in its latest expansion.
The latest announcement is the second significant investment in South Marston, after it was confirmed that the Honda sight had been purchased by Pannatoni, Europe’s biggest developer of industrial and logistics facilities, in a deal which is set to bring £700million investment to Swindon.
Justin Tomlinson said: “I am delighted to see the Council continue to show a willingness to work and engage with potential developers to bring investment and opportunity to Swindon. Too often Local Authorities seek to block employment investment, thankfully this is not the case in Swindon. I hope we can continue to promote Swindon to other businesses and attract further investment.”
