Government Expands Skills Toolkit

The Government has announced it is expanding the Skills Toolkit following its successful launch just a month ago.

The Skills Toolkit has been developed in collaboration with Department for Work and Pensions; the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy; and the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, and is an online platform giving people access to free, high-quality digital and numeracy training.

These are the skills that everyone needs to thrive in the 21st Century and the skills that evidence suggests are increasingly in demand across almost all sectors and occupations. The Skills Toolkit meets a range of needs and is open to everyone – irrespective of employment status or current skill level. Since it was launched on 28 April there have been 136,000 course starts, helping people build up their skills, progress in work and boost their job prospects.

Following the demand for online learning, the Government has added a further four courses to the platform ranging from introductory level training on finance, book-keeping and using Microsoft Outlook

Justin Tomlinson said: "Education and skills are key to opening up opportunities, no matter your background and they are a way of challenging yourself and keeping your mind healthy and busy during time spent at home. Giving the nation a taster of flexible, online learning will help drive change in the way in which we all develop our skills throughout our working lives"
