North Swidon MP visited the National Literacy Trust's Literacy Leaders event in Parliament to hear more about its work supporting community initiatives which drive up literacy rates at a local level.
In Swindon we have the fantastic Swindon Stories, which works with local schools, nurseries, libraries and businesses to make reading and writing a priority for everyone in the town.
Reading and writing is vital to improving outcomes for young people, so it is incredibly positive news that the UK was recently judged to be 4th in the international rankings for literacy - the best in Europe. Organisations like the National Literacy Trust and Swindon Stories have played an important part in this success.
Justin Tomlinson said: "I am incredibly passionate about promoting reading and literacy, and I will continue to do all I can to champion this issue."
