Justin Tomlinson MP is backing a Bill that would ensure that people usings schools, leisure centres and other public buildings would be able to immediately access the life-saving provision on a defibrillator.
As it stands, twelve young people die from cardiac arrest every week in the UK. This a figure that has been ignored for far too long and a greater provision of ready-to-use lifesaving defibrillators would greatly reduce this figure and save lives up and down the country. The Oliver King Foundation has worked at the forefront of the campaign for defibrillators in schools, sports facilities, businesses and civic centres for the last five years – placing over 1000 defibrillators and saving 10 lives to date, proving that this is a campaign with proven results and a worthy cause.
Justin, who is the Patron of the Swindon branch of the British Heart Foundation, has worked tirelessly to improve access to emergency life-saving equipment and training. He recently wrote to every school in Swindon to encourage them to work with the Oliver King Foundation to secure a defibrillator for their site. Additionally, Justin will be working with the schools to raise funds for these vital pieces of equipment.
Justin Tomlinson MP said: "This is a matter that is very personal to me. During my time representing North Swindon, I have campaigned tirelessly on emergency life-saving skills and access to defibrillators. In Swindon, I've already worked with a number of schools to ensure they have access to defibrillators, and I will be actively supporting this Bill to ensure that we extend that opportunity to every school, leisure centre and public building in the country."
