Justin Backs Local Residents As He Hosts North Swindon Jobs Fair

Justin Tomlinson MP hosted a jobs fair in partnership with the Orbital Shopping Park with local employers including Marks & Spencer’s, ASDA, McDonalds and local recruiting firms to help jobseekers find a role.

Around 70 local job seekers descended on the Jobs fairs to hear the variety of opportunities available and help link job seekers with roles.

The employment rate throughout the South West is currently 76.8% – one of the highest rates for any UK region. Nationally, there are 31.81 million people in work, 106,000 more than the previous quarter and 560,000 more than last year.

In Swindon the number of people claiming the key out of work benefits has fallen by 2,692 - a 62% drop – since 2010.

Justin Tomlinson MP said: “It’s a real privilege to be working with the Orbital Shopping Park to host events such as this jobs fair. At the moment, we have a really strong economy and businesses are having to work harder to find people to fill their gaps. I am delighted that we have been able to host this event and we have received a lot of positive feedback from those who have come along.”

Jamie Turner, Manager of the Orbital Shopping Park, said: “It has been a fantastic event. It was a joint decision between Justin and I to host this event and we are really pleased with the turnout. It has been very worthwhile as it looks like people have been given interviews already. If it gets a handful of people in work then it will have been very worthwhile indeed.”
