North Swindon MP Justin Tomlinson has attended celebrations for the local community radio station Swindon 105.5 as it celebrated it’s 9th anniversary, as well as the opening of it’s new training studio – the Sir Daniel Gooch studio.
The event which took place at the Liden Community Centre, the new home of the popular station, was attended by Justin, local Councillors, Eric Shaw the Mayor of Swindon as well as volunteers and supporters of the station.
Swindon 105.5 is a community radio station for people across the area and relies on donations and fundraising activities to produce a wide range of shows which cater to a mass audience locally.
Justin having a long association with the station, praised the work of Shirley Ludford, the station’s manager and for the opportunities it creates for local people.
Justin Tomlinson MP said: "I have long been a supporter of Swindon 105.5 community radio which does a fantastic job in providing great opportunities for people facing challenges, to volunteer at the studio and gain valuable experience. It also provides a fantastic broadcast service for everybody in our town. Most of this work is down to the hard work and dedication of Shirley Ludford who does an invaluable job as station manager.”
Shirley Ludford said: “We have seen thousands of people of all ages and abilities coming in to the Station during the past nine years, seeing great personal achievements. Finalising our training studio and naming it the Daniel Gooch Studio is a very fitting way of celebrating this anniversary, linking with Swindon 175 and the town we serve.”
