North Swindon MP Justin Tomlinson joined students at Great Western Academy as they celebrated School Sports Week.
School Sports Week is a national initiative organised by the Youth Sport Trust to get young people to be active for the recommended 60 minutes a day.
Justin observed a dance session in the Main Hall, where students danced energetically to a variety of popular songs, with the routines projected on the wall. Following the dance session Justin also watched a lively game of ping-pong on special tennis-tables in the playground.
During in the visit, Justin also spoke to PE teachers to learn how GWA are getting pupils engaged with sport and allowing them to have a choice of a wide variety of different sports.
Justin said: “I absolutely understand the importance of a fit and healthy childhood, and I am always keen to support initiatives which promote and encourage this. It was fantastic to see so many of the students running around and enjoying being active. I will continue to do all I can to champion sport as a way to promote a healthy lifestyle.”
