North Swindon MP and Minister for Diabled People Justin Tomlinson met with Swindon mother to discuss her contribution to the Government's new National Disability Strategy.
Becky Maddern first approached Justin last year to highlight her campaign to increase accessible equipment at play parks. Her campaign was inspired by her disabled son Benjamin, and his disappointment at being unable to enjoy the equipment at his local park. Following a meeting, Justin wrote to every parish council to encourage them to install inclusive play equipment. In addition to this Justin organised a meeting Luke Hall MP, Minister for Local Government, to discuss how the Government can help local authorities increase accessible equipment in their play parks.
Becky's work was also highlighted in the Government's Disability Strategy, and to mark the launch of the strategy Justin visited the King George V park in Haydon Wick to meet with Becky, Benjamin and their family. Becky was also invited to a private, virtual roundtable to share how the National Strategy would help her campaign. When joining the meeting she was greeted by the Prime Minister.
