North Swindon MP Justin Tomlinson met with Wiltshire & Swindon Sport (WASP) Chief Executive Steve Boocock, to learn about WASP’s work to increase sport provision for young people. Sport England commissioned WASP to work with schools, young people and activity providers to support the development of opportunities, share best practice and develop resources that will enable schools to manage the opening up of facilities.
Their work also includes The School Sport Action Plan, which recommends that sports facilities are opened up for community use. This is something Justin has supported for a long time, and has advocated using money raised through the sugar tax to allow schools to open up their facilities after school and in the holidays for sports activities.
Justin said: “Encouraging children to be more active and healthier is something I am passionate about. I have been campaigning for a long time to help schools open up their facilities to increase sport provision for young people. It was great to meet with WASP, and hear about the fantastic work they are also doing in this area.”
