Today is World Mental Health Day, and to mark the occasion Justin Tomlinson MP met with Department of Health Minister Will Quince, to discuss how we can better support people in work with fluctuating mental wellbeing. 300,000 people a year drop out of work through poor mental health.
To address this the Government is investing £122 million to rollout a vital NHS service to help 100,000 people managing mental health issues stay in or return to work. The service brings together therapists and employment advisers, who can then work with individuals to help them find or remain in employment tailored to their needs.
This is a real boost for not just the individual, but also the businesses and organisations they work for.
Justin Tomlinson MP, “I have been active on this issue in Parliament for many years so I am thrilled there will now provide direct support to both employees and their employers.
Too often people fall out of work, shattering their confidence in addition to having to navigate their fluctuating mental wellbeing.
By providing the tools and support, collectively we will start to see fewer people dropping out of work because of a lack of adequate support.”
