Last week, Justin Tomlinson MP became one of the first people in the UK to use Near Field Communication (NFC) technology to make a charity donation using a smartphone.
NFC technology is a key part of the future for payments in the UK, with only a handful, to date, having had the opportunity to use the technology through a handheld device. To make this a part of consumers’ every-day lives, the card payments industry is working towards a world where payments by plastic card are complemented by the option to pay via NFC through a smart phone.
Justin Tomlinson MP said: "Technology is evolving at a record pace and creating new ways for us to shop, buy and pay for things. NFC technology has the ability to simplify things for consumers and I'm delighted it can also be used to donate money to worthy causes".
