Justin Encourages Local Children To Get Reading This Summer

Justin Tomlinson MP was excited to join forces with British Land and the National Literacy Trust to provide an exciting visit for children in Swindon’s primary schools.

As part of the National Literacy Trust’s campaign to encourage more children to read, the students were invited to the Orbital Shopping Park to take part in a number of activities including sunflower planting at Homebase and a behind the scenes tour of Asda.

The children then visited Justin’s office to select their third free book to read at home and also enjoyed a performance from professional story teller, Bill. Justin was really pleased to see young people engaging with literacy and reading, especially as the event came a week after he launched the Summer Reading Challenge in Parliament.

Justin Tomlinson MP said: “Reading is an enjoyable and crucial part of a child’s education so I was glad to welcome the school children to my office to select their new book. It is crucial that we make reading exciting and engaging for young people and events such as the National Literacy Trust’s engagement with the Orbital Shopping Park is an excellent way of doing this. It would be good to see school children signing up to the library’s Animal Agents reading challenge over the summer holidays.”
