Justin Encourages Local Residents To Shape The Future Of Sport Through Consultation

The North Swindon MP, Justin Tomlinson, is calling on Swindon's sports clubs to help contribute to the UK's approach to sports.

The Government has launched a major consultation on the nation's sporting offer and how we can get more people more actively involved in sports.

The Department for Culture, Media and Sport wants members of the public and sporting organisations to get involved with the consultation process by telling decision-makers what needs to be done to get their particular sport to flourish.

The consultation asks people for their views on topics such as the financial sustainability of sport, coaching, infrastructure, children's involvement in sports, access of sport for disabled people and professional sports. On page 45 of the consultation, Justin discusses his passion for sport in Swindon and outlines his plan to deliver a safer sporting environment and improve access to sport for people with disabilities.

Justin Tomlinson MP said: "Here in Swindon we have a number of fantastic sports clubs that offer something for everybody. As a local councillor I established the local Sports Forum with the aim to bring clubs together to offer mutual support. As the local MP I have continued to engage with local clubs and in Parliament I led the campaign to increase the hours spent playing sport in school. I want people across Swindon to get involved and make their voice heard when it comes to our national approach on sports."

Sports Minister, Tracey Crouch MP, said: "Sport has such a positive impact on peoples lives and I want to embed participation into this nation's DNA. I want to make sure that the sports sector gives everybody - no matter who they are and what their ability - the chance to take part."

The consultation runs until Friday 2 October and can be viewed at: https://www.gov.uk/government/consultations/a-new-strategy-for-sport-consultation
