North Swindon MP Justin Tomlinson has welcomed the launch of the very first Swindon Sports Forum Senior Games.
The Swindon Sports Forum Senior Games is a sporting contest taking place between 6 care homes across Swindon: Prince Rupert Court in Freshbrook, Hurst House in Pinetree Rise, Lansdown Hill in Wroughton, Park View in Blunsdon, and Ridgeway Rise in St Andrew’s Ridge.
It was hoped that this would be able to take place in-person, however Coronavirus has meant that it will have to be conducted virtually.
The tournament, run in conjunction with Swindon Borough Council and Wiltshire & Swindon Sport, has four events – the (foam) javelin, putting, tin can alley and target mat. Each care home will hold their own events and record the 6 best performances from its residents, which will be judged by Sports Forum Coordinator Chis Baker. The plan is for the videos from the event to be uploaded on to the Swindon Sports Forum Facebook Page.
Justin Tomlinson said: “Although billed as a fun event, I am sure it will be very hotly contested, with those taking part keen to secure the medals and trophy up for grabs. Best of luck to everyone taking part!”
