North Swindon MP Justin Tomlinson visited Zimmer Biomet’s Dorcan site to learn about their innovative research into knee and hip replacements.
Following an informative presentation from research director Imran Khan on their current research into biomaterials and anti-infective technologies to improve their products, and their collaborative efforts with universities across Europe, Justin was taken on a tour of the site to see the machinery used to test the implants, perform chemical analyses, and prevent post-operation infections.
Justin then discussed current industry concerns, including regulatory issues, NHS waiting lists for elective procedures, and the consistency of digital health profiles between NHS trusts; and ideas to expand their corporate social responsibility projects.
