Justin Highlights Vital Role Of Clubs At Sports Forum AGM

Local MP and Founder of Swindon’s Sports Forum, Justin Tomlinson, has spoken at the Forum's AGM and highlighted the vital role sport plays in the town.

The Swindon Sports Forum was established in 2007 in order for dedicated volunteers to work with local sports clubs in order to help them flourish within the local community. The Forum works with its partners, which include Swindon Borough Council Leisure Services and Wiltshire and Swindon Sport, to ensure that local sports clubs have their say about what more can be done to encourage their development and outreach.

Justin spoke at the AGM event and thanked all of the local clubs for the work that they do locally to encourage young people into sport.

Justin Tomlinson MP said: "Volunteers who run local sports clubs play a vital role in maintaining the health and well-being of Swindon residents. I continue to champion the importance of local sports clubs in Parliament and have led the campaign to increase the amount of hours spent playing sports in school. Recently I had discussions with the Department for Education to ensure that they kept a budget of £150 million ring-fenced to concentrate on encouraging more young people into sports. I hope going forward that there is more that can be done to offer school facilities to local clubs free of charge between the hours of 4-6pm, in order to make it as easy as possible for clubs to flourish as well as supporting busy parents."
