Justin Joins Forces With British Heart Foundation To Deliver Life Saving CPR Class

North Swindon MP Justin Tomlinson has teamed up with the British Heart Foundation to deliver a life-saving class in CPR.

Justin has been working with the BHF to create a ‘nation of life-savers’, where everyone has the knowledge and skills to deliver immediate help to someone suffering a cardiac arrest.

The BHF estimates that 10,000 people die every year as rates of bystander CPR are very low. Every minute without CPR or defibrillation can reduce a person’s chance of surviving a cardiac arrest by around 10%.

The class was organised in conjunction with BHF to give constituents the opportunity to learn the skills and gain the confidence to be able to step in and potentially save someone’s life.

Throughout his time as a Member of Parliament, Justin has actively campaigned to improve public knowledge of emergency lifesaving skills and has lobbied Ministers to include the learning of such skills on the curriculum. This is addition to work he has undertaken to increase access to defibrillators in public buildings.

Justin also spoke to BBC Wiltshire about his experience of losing his father following a cardiac arrest and why classes like this are so important.

Justin Tomlinson MP said: “People are concerned that they might cause more harm than good, or wait for someone else to help. The truth is, you can’t do worse than doing nothing. It’s such an easy thing to do and can make such a big difference. If you do a class like this just once, you have a skill for life and you will have it when you need it most.”
