Justin Joins Forces With MPs From Across West Of England To Discuss Improving Rail Infrastructure

Local MP Justin Tomlinson has joined fellow MPs from Swindon, Wiltshire & Oxfordshire to discuss plans to improve rail infrastructure across the west of England.

As major projects including the £6bn electrification of the Great Western Main Line and the introduction of new high speed rolling stock are delivered, the region's MPs are now looking to improve connectivity across the area.

During the meeting, the MPs discussed plans to deliver extra services to Bristol, Oxford & Cambridge. At the Budget, the Chancellor announced a £1.7 billion Transforming Cities Fund for projects that drive productivity by improving connections within city regions. Swindon is looking to utilise the fund to make it easier for commuters who live and work in the town to travel to & from these places.

Justin also highlighted the need to improve to modernise Swindon Station, and consider options to build a new station to serve the Eastern Villages Development to unlock better public transport access to these  homes and deliver further growth for the town.

Justin Tomlinson MP said: "People living in and around Swindon are starting to benefit from new, faster trains with more seats and, from next year, they will see journey times to London fall as a result of the £6bn electrification programme. Both of these are huge positives for commuters but we also want to improve rail connections in our area, modernisie Swindon station and look at plans to make it easier to access Oxford, Bristol & Cambridge, as well as the new Eastern Villages".
