Justin Joins Local Organisations On First Day Of Ministerial Visits

Justin Tomlinson MP was last week appointed as the Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Disabled People, and where else to kick-start a day full of Ministerial visits but in North Swindon.

Justin started by visiting staff and pupils at the outstanding (Ofsted-rated) Uplands School at the Learning Campus off Tadpole Lane. He was given a tour of the school which caters for students with complex learning difficulties, including Autistic Spectrum Condition. Justin was also able to visit The Chalet School which caters for younger students aged 3-11 who require provision beyond mainstream education.

Elsewhere on his jam-packed day, Justin was able to visit Seqol's Enterprise Works, a social enterprise which is helping people with a disability get back into work, as well as other local organisations including Swindon Mind, Swindon Carers Centre, The Olive Tree Cafe Charity and the Swindon Therapy Centre for MS. All of which do fantastic work to help those with a disability, mental health condition or people caring for somebody with a disability.

Justin Tomlinson MP said: "Both Uplands and The Chalet School are extremely inspiring places. I was very grateful to get a chance to meet pupils and chat with staff about the challenges facing those catering for pupils with Special Educational Needs. I had already visited all of these organisations a number of times before and supported them as the local MP, but it was really great to visit them within the capacity of my new role.  I was especially proud to showcase the very best of Swindon in terms of compassionate and caring organisations which we are exceptionally lucky to have. I very much look forward to continuing to work with such inspiring people, both as the MP for North Swindon, and the Minister for Disabled People."
