North Swindon MP Justin Tomlinson joined residents at Abbey House Residential Home for Cupcake Day in aid of Alzheimer’s UK.
Cupcake Day is aimed at raising money to support people affected by Alzheimer’s and research for potential treatments. As part of the fundraising, Justin was asked to judge the Abbey House Bake Off, which saw residents make and decorate cupcakes in hopes of being named Star Baker.
The four contestants had help from their family and staff from Abbey House, who worked together to create some very impressive cakes. After sampling all the entries, the judges had difficulty choosing a winner, but eventually settled on a colourful entry covered in sweets.
Abbey House, which was officially opened by Justin in 2016, provides both residential and nursing care for people across the dementia spectrum, from those who are physically active, to people who may have medical conditions complicated by living with dementia requiring nursing care and those who require end of life care.
Justin Tomlinson MP said: “I am very grateful that I was invited back to Abbey House to join in with such an important cause. I am a huge fan of Bake Off so it was great fun trying to judge the winners – I know that Prue Leith would have been impressed!”
