Justin Joins Students For Ferndale Primary School Science Fair

Local MP, Justin Tomlinson, has visited Ferndale Community Primary School to join in with the school’s ‘Science Week’.

Justin visited pupils at the science fair on Thursday where he has the opportunity to see a number of different experiments that the pupils had been exploring throughout the week.

One activity included Year 5 pupils finding out how craters appear on the moon and how this effects the moon’s activity in relation to the Earth. Elsewhere, Year 2 pupils were busily exploring which chocolate makes the best chocolate chip cookies - the taste-testing proving a particular hit!

Year 2 pupils also proudly presented their young chicks to Justin, which they had hatched after incubating their eggs and monitoring the progress.

Justin Tomlinson MP said: “It was great to see all of the youngsters enthused and excited about science. All of the staff at Ferndale have done an absolutely fantastic job in making science week a fun and unique learning experience. With pupils taking an active part in conducting experiments, and recording the outcome, they begin to develop a real sense of ownership in the work that they do. This provides a real opportunity for youngsters to engage in learning. It’s also about having fun. Learning can be fun and the teachers at Ferndale are taking a proactive approach to prove it. I commend all those involved in organising the science fair, and give a big thumbs up to all of the bright pupils who took part.”
