Justin Learns More About The Benefits Of Learning Outside The Classroom

North Swindon MP Justin Tomlinson met with Council for Learning Outside the Classroom to understand more about the educational opportunities beyond the traditional class room.

Justin met with Dr Anne Hunt, CEO of Council for Learning Outside the Classroom - a charity which provides support for teachers and educators to develop a culture of learning beyond the classroom.

Dr Hunt outlined the two immediate opportunities that could make a significant contribution to addressing the widening inequalities in health, wellbeing and learning:

o Learning outside the classroom, provides opportunities to furthersupport the health, wellbeing and learning of all students in educational settings.

o Social prescribing - which offers to provide targeted support for the many students in educational settings with additional health needs, particularly those at risk of needing or already on the waiting list for CAMHS/CYPMHS, thereby addressing a gap in the system.

Justin Tomlinson MP said: “Whether visiting places of interest, or interesting people / activities visiting the school. I am a passionate supporter of this, what better way to inspire young people to learn, explore and spark interest in future career paths. This is one of the reasons I spend so much time visiting schools to do interactive assemblies and offering my comprehensive summer work experience programme. I am keen to encourage more local businesses / organisations to link up with our local schools – collectively this could make a real difference.”
