North Swindon MP Justin Tomlinson is calling on residents to support Swindon Down’s Syndrome Group’s #lotsofsocks campaign and help raise money to people with Down’s Syndrome find meaningful employment.
The group brought 3,000 pairs of odd socks down Down’s Syndrome International to sell and raise money for their important WorkFit initiative.
Originally, the group had planned to sell the socks in the run up to World Down’s Syndrome Day on the 21st March. Unfortunately, COVID prevented them from going ahead and selling the socks as planned.
Despite working hard to sell socks to family and friends online, there are still plenty of socks left which need to be sold. So, Swindon Down’s Group are taking advantage of National Sock Day on 4th December to do a sales push to raise as much money as possible for WorkFit.
WorkFit helps prepares adults with Down’s syndrome for placement into work-related activities (paid jobs, volunteering roles, work experience and traineeships), and assists employers to help them engage with people with Down’s Syndrome.

Since becoming an MP Justin has supported Swindon Down Syndrome Group, attending charity initiatives and opening up his community office for their events, as well as attending its Salamander Project Pass Out Parade – which sees young people with Down’s Syndrome learn vital skills from the emergency services.
Justin Tomlinson said: “I have worked closely with Swindon Down’s Syndrome Group for many years, and have seen first-hand the incredible work the group does. As Minister for Disabled People, I have worked hard to increase access to work for people with all manner of disabilities, so WorkFit is exactly the type of initiative I am very passionate about supporting – and I hope many others will join me in supporting this great cause.”
