Justin Meets Apprentices At Cleeve Technology

North Swindon MP Justin Tomlinson has visited Cleeve Technology Limited, to meet the company’s new apprentices and tour its Kembrey Park facility.

Cleeve Technology design and manufacture electrical cable assemblies & harnesses. Justin met with Business Development Manager Doug Coombs and Operations Manager Deb Leat to learn more about the business and the cable harness industry.

Justin saw first-hand the work the company does as he toured the factory, learning about Cleeve and the companies it works with which include Apple and Jaguar Land Rover.

Last year Cleeve approached Justin for advice about recruiting apprentices who they could train and develop to acquire the necessary skills. Justin was keen to assist, and helped them work with Swindon College to take two apprentices on a four year apprenticeship.

During the tour Justin had the opportunity to meet Jack and Patrick, Cleeve’s new apprentices, and see them at work in the workshop.

Justin Tomlinson MP said: “It was fantastic to meet with Doug and Deb, and see what a success Cleeve is – is it just the latest business success story for Swindon. I am delighted that Cleeve is investing in apprentices, and it was great to meet Jack and Patrick. There is a skills gap in the UK, and apprenticeships like this can help fill the gap. They are also hugely beneficial to the apprentices themselves, giving them the opportunity to earn while they learn.”

Deb Leat said: “I am passionate about apprentices. I don’t want to see young people sat at home not doing anything. We can give them a skill set which they can then develop into a career.”

Doug Coombs said “It is vital that we bring in good people into the industry, and I have been incredibly impressed by the quality of the new apprentices. Their work ethic and enthusiasm has been excellent.”
