Justin Tomlinson, Member of Parliament for North Swindon, joined Barclays and Doubletree by Hilton Swindon, to hold a roundtable discussion for customers and senior leaders in Swindon.
The event was attended by business people drawn from all sectors, including representatives from the Thames Valley Chamber of Commerce, to discuss and highlight key national and regional business issues and priorities for the local business community.
Justin who was elected as North Swindon MP in 2010 was introduced by Craig Horne, Barclays Business Regional Manager,Swindon and welcomed by Emma Richards Director of Sales at the DoubleTree by Hilton, Swindon.
Attendees took the opportunity to hear first-hand the MP’s national and local priorities as well as having a wide-ranging discussion on the issues of the day including the cost-of-living challenges, public sector pay, interest rates, and the wider economy.
Commenting on the discussion, Justin Tomlinson MP said: “Despite the current headwinds the Swindon economy remains strong, with low unemployment, relative affordable housing, a great location for inward investment boosted by a skilled workforce.” He added: “To support this I am rightly focused on our priorities to halve inflation, grow the economy, and reduce debt and with the support of senior business leaders and organisations in the room I have no doubt we will continue to see new jobs and opportunities being created in the future.”
Craig Horne, Barclays Business Regional Manager for Swindon, added: “The business roundtable was a great opportunity to bring together customers, representatives of the local business community with their local MP to discuss the hot topics of the day and to hear what’s on their minds.
“What was clear is the continued commitment around the table, locally businesses have a strong desire for growth and despite the difficult times we are currently operating there was a tangible feeling of confidence around the room.”
