North Swindon MP Justin Tomlinson has met with Graeme Hardie of the organisation 113 Events, to discuss the plans for this year’s Swindon Half Marathon, following its successful launch in 2017.
Graeme Hardie outlined minor changes to the route from last year, including access to the bridge near the Outlet Centre, which will divert runners around more of Swindon’s heritage buildings.
The route still retains many of the town’s landmarks including; the Magic Roundabout, the County Ground, the Outlet, Oasis, Old Town and will finish in the Town Centre at Wharf Green, as it did last year. The two also discussed potential options to fund the Half Marathon through sponsorship, to cover the cost of signage, pit-stops and temporary road closures in the during the event.
Justin Tomlinson MP said: “I’m very pleased to hear that the Half Marathon will be taking place again this year in Swindon. The event is the result of a lot of time and organisation from Graeme and 113 Events, and is truly remarkable for the number of people it has attracted in just one year. I’m determined to see it go from strength to strength in the coming years and it should act as a great boost to the Town Centre.”
