Local MP & DWP Minister Justin Tomlinson has visited volunteers at the Swindon Food Collective, the organisation now running Swindon’s Foodbanks.
Foodbanks offer emergency food packages to people who find themselves in difficulties, often through unexpected circumstances.
Donations to Swindon’s foodbanks are sorted and distributed by sixty volunteers at seven centres across Swindon. The Swindon Food Collective are currently waiting for charitable status. To assist until this status is confirmed, Swindon Borough Council have provided them with a grant of £51,000.
Justin chatted to volunteers about potential new initiatives which would see extra support and guidance provided to people turning to foodbanks.
