Justin Meets With QVC To Discuss The Future Of Retail

North Swindon MP and Co-Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group for Retail has visited the home of multi-channel retailer, QVC, to discuss the growing strength of the retail market across the country.

The retail sector across in the country is enjoying a return to prosperity following the recession, with a rise in online and television-based sales also increasing. In Swindon, footfall in the town's retail area has increased while the new multi-million pound Regent Circus development will create jobs and promote further growth in the town.

During the visit, Justin met with staff and managers at the company's Chiswick studios and learned about how the company, which was launched in 1993 and employs 2,000 people across two sites, is expanding its operations and now has more than a million active customers, including many across Swindon. In addition discovered how QVC's studios operate and visited the production office to see the amount of skill that goes into producing content for the company's four television channels.

Justin Tomlinson MP said: "The retail sector in the UK suffered greatly during the recession but now it is growing again. Companies have changed the way they do business, the Government has provided incentives to support smaller, independent retailers, and consumers are coming back to the high street or using online services to purchase products. This has allowed a wide-range of companies to expand and we are seeing jobs created in retail up and down the country".
