Justin Meets With Survivors Of Domestic Abuse During Event With Swindon Women's Aid

North Swindon MP Justin Tomlinson listened to survivors of domestic abuse, as they spoke about their experiences at an International Women’s Day event.

The women were speaking at a special breakfast hosted by Swindon Women’s Aid to celebrate International Women’s Day, a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women.

Joining Justin at the event were South Swindon MP Robert Buckland, Swindon and Wiltshire PCC Angus Macpherson, and high sheriff of Wiltshire Nicky Alberry – who is a trustee of Swindon Women’s Aid.

The Government has recently passed the Domestic Abuse Bill, which aims to support victims and their families and pursue offenders. The Bill has been described as a “once in a generation opportunity to address domestic violence” by Sandra Horley CBE, Chief Executive of Refuge.

Justin Tomlinson MP said: “It was a privilege to hear these brave women speaking about their experiences and the ordeals they have been through. The work of Swindon Women’s Aid is hugely important, not just in supporting vulnerable women but also in raising awareness to help stop domestic abuse.”
