North Swindon MP Justin Tomlinson met with representatives from UK Youth and STEP Swindon to discuss their work to support young people in Swindon.
UK Youth is a charity that exists to ensure all young people are equipped to thrive and empowered to contribute at every stage of their lives. We engage with and capture insights from a wide range of youth organisations in our UK Movement, an open network of over 8,000 youth organisations and nation partners who collectively reach an estimated 5.3 million young people across the UK.
STEP Swindon is a registered charity, providing a safe and supportive environment for children and young people in Swindon aged 7 - 18, who are experiencing isolation and exclusion due to either their lack of social skills, personal circumstances, or poverty.
They work creatively using therapeutic group work to enable children and young people to make a positive contribution to society through the delivery of life and social skills, with recognition of achievement through accreditation.
As part of the Thriving Minds project, they have been funded to strengthen the staff supervision and support ‘offer’ through the introduction of wellness action plans. They have also introduced a 1:1 buddy scheme for young people who have such high levels of social anxiety that they need some initial support to be able to engage with groupwork.
Justin Tomlinson MP said: "It was a pleasure to meet with UK Youth and STEP Swindon to hear about the vital work it is doing with young people in Swindon to ensure they have the skills to fulfil their potential."
