North Swindon MP Justin Tomlinson has thanked local residents for their generosity in donating gifts to his annual Christmas Appeal, which this year saw gifts donated to Swindon Women’s Aid.
Every year Justin chooses a charity to support its campaign for gift donations, with his busy office at the Orbital as a collection point and encouraging residents to get involved. Following successful appeals over the last few years in support of children in care, and elderly people at risk of loneliness and isolation, Justin partnered with Swindon Women’s Aid for this year’s gift appeal.
Swindon Women’s Aid holds a gift appeal every year, asking people to donate gifts to the women they support and their children. Families who find themselves in refuges have often experienced great trauma, and some of the mothers may have moved into a refuge over Christmas with their children. The donations will be sorted and given to the women and their families to ensure they have plenty of gifts to open on Christmas morning.
Justin’s community office was inundated with a wide variety of gifts - from books and toiletries to an Airfix model and miniature drum kit. By the end of the appeal, dozens of donations were dropped off at Justin’s community office – with more collected at the appeal’s other collection points.
Justin Tomlinson MP said: “I am as ever very grateful to local Swindon residents who have donated gifts to this appeal – their generosity never fails to surprise me and each year the appeal grows and grows. The office has felt very festive with all the toys and gifts under the tree, and I am glad the gifts will now help other people who may be going through a challenging time this Christmas.”
