Local MP, Justin Tomlinson, has praised the vital work volunteers do day-in, day-out across Swindon during an awards ceremony as part of celebrations recognising the Volunteers' Week.
Volunteers' Week is an annual event which celebrates the contribution made by millions of volunteers across the UK. Run by the National Council of Voluntary Organistations, 2014 sees 30th anniversary of Volunteers' Week. To celebrate, Volunteer Centre Swindon invited local organisations to nominate an individual or group of volunteers who have made a real difference.
The celebration was supported by The Children's Society, The Olive Tree Cafe, Avon & Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership, MHA Care Homes, Swindon College, The Gate & Gateway Furniture, Swindon 105.5, Victim Support The Witness Service, The Sports Forum, Voluntary Action Swindon, Swindon Home Library Service, Community Centre @ Christchurch, SMASH, Wiltshire Law Centre, The Harbour Project, Highworth Library, Street Games, Swindon Health Walks & Timebank Swindon.
As part of the event, Justin presented awards to those volunteers who had impressed their peers with their hard work over the past twelve months.
Justin Tomlinson MP said: "Swindon has so many wonderful causes who are supported by teams of dedicated volunteers. Earlier this year, the NCVO Almanac highlighted the 138 local charities in Swindon and the more than 5,000 excellent volunteers who lend their support. These awards rightly recognise the commitment of volunteers from across our town who make a vital contribution day-in, day-out!".
