Local MP Justin Tomlinson was joined by Councillor Toby Elliott, Cabinet Member for Strategic Planning, on a visit to Bellway Homes and their new development next to Headlands school. Building work has already begun on the site which will hold 152 new homes by 2017.
Swindon has been one of the fast growing towns year on year for the past 20 years. Since 2010, 3,655 new homes have been built in Swindon. And this is just the start with, 22,000 homes to be built by 2026 as part of Swindon’s local plan. In total this has brought in £19.5 million to Swindon Borough Council, a figure which continues to grow.
Justin Tomlinson MP said: “I was grateful of the opportunity to come and visit Bellway Homes to view the new Liberty Park development. I am incredibly proud that Swindon continues its forward thinking when it comes to development, something which brings in huge local investment. One of the things that makes our town so appealing is its good value, affordable housing. This is putting us on an extremely competitive edge and is one of the main reasons why businesses are choosing to invest heavily in our town. This comes at a time when the Government is injecting new funds into building new homes across the UK and I am glad that Swindon is leading the way.”
