Justin Tomlinson MP today joined those from the world of sport in Swindon and Wiltshire at the county’s annual Sports Awards.

The awards aim to recognise coaches, volunteers, clubs and athletes across Swindon and Wiltshire who have made a significant contribution to local and national sport.

Olympic silver medallist in skeleton bob, Shelley Rudman, spoke to the awards about her journey to the Olympics and the difficulties that she encountered on the way. She joined representatives from Swindon and Wiltshire sport and leisure to recognise those nominated, those shortlisted and to announce the winners.

Justin Tomlinson MP said “I am a huge supporter of sport in Swindon and it is great to see our town’s athletes and clubs recognised this evening. We’ve had an amazing summer of sport in Swindon, from the School Games that I opened, the community games tour I visited that aimed to get young people trying new sports and, of course, the Olympics beamed out on the big screen in the town centre.

“Congratulations to everyone recognised tonight. Our local sports clubs are vital in getting people more involved and I am working closely with clubs through the Sports Forum and Volunteer Centre Swindon to get more volunteers so that clubs can accommodate the huge post-Olympic surge in enthusiasm.”
