Justin Tomlinson MP has met with Martin Lewis - moneysavingexpert.com again to discuss plans to create an All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for Finanical Education for Young People.
The launch date for the APPG is January 31st 2011.
The aim of the APPG is:
To provide a medium through which MPs, Peers and organisations with an interest in financial education, can discuss the current provision on financial education in schools; ensure young people are equipped to make informed financial decisions; help make resources and qualifications available to young people in education; support schools in the delivery of financial capability; and encourage the introduction of a requirement on schools to provide financial education.
Justin Tomlinson MP, "I think it is essential to equip all young people with the relevant skills relating to financial responsibilities, whether this is understanding store cards, savings, mobile phone tariffs, loans, debt etc. We have a duty to make sure as young people get access to credit, they are able to make an informed decision."
