Justin Tomlinson today joined members of both Houses at an event organised by the War Memorials Trust and the SmartWater Foundation. The event was held to secure the support of MPs and Peers for the ‘In Memoriam 2014’ Project.
2014 will mark 100 years since the beginning of the First World War. In Memoriam 2014 is a project that offers greater protection for the war memorials erected across the UK to remember those who fell in the Great War and those that have fallen in wars since.
A joint partnership between the War Memorials Trust and the SmartWater Foundation, the project will protect memorials at risk of theft or damage by marking them with SmartWater. The crime prevention fluid, which is being made available at no charge, will not only make memorials uniquely identifiable, it also offers robust traceability should a theft occur helping lead to arrests and convictions.
Justin Tomlinson MP said “This is a really fantastic partnership to help protect our war memorials from senseless vandalism, enabling us to give our veterans and those who have died for our country the deep respect they deserve.
“I was delighted to attend this event as it was a great opportunity to discuss this excellent project and learn more about how we, as Swindon residents, can protect our community’s war memorials.”
