North Swindon MP Justin Tomlinson today welcomed Which’s ‘Big Switch’ Campaign to save consumers money on their energy bills.

The Big Switch aims to harness the buying power of thousands of consumers to secure a better deal on bills from the energy companies. By getting customers to sign up to the campaign, Which will then negotiate with the companies to secure a deal. Those that signed up then have the choice to switch if they want.

Customers have until the 31st March to sign up online and the more that do, the more buying power the campaign will have to secure a good deal.

Justin Tomlinson MP said “This is an excellent campaign, harnessing the buying power of consumers to secure a good deal on energy bills that individuals would never be able to negotiate. I urge fellow Swindon residents to sign up and take advantage of the opportunity to grab a bargain on their energy supply."

Justin has been an active campaigner in Parliament on consumer issues, including the issue of energy bills.  Together with Martin Lewis of MoneySavingExpert.com, Justin Tomlinson MP has been calling for a 12 month price fix when consumers switch suppliers.

"Currently, I could be with supplier A who announce that my bill is going up by 10%.  I decide to switch to supplier B as they are cheaper, but a month into my 12 month contract, the price could go up and I could be in a worse position than I was with supplier A, only now I am also trapped in a contract for 12 months.  I am calling for the price to be fixed for 12 months once you switch to help consumers make informed decisions about their energy suppliers and to help people budget."
