Cancer patients in Swindon will no longer need to travel to Oxford and back, owing much to inspiring community fundraising for the dedicated Radiotherapy Unit at the Great Western Hospital.
Justin Tomlinson MP has praised the array of individuals and groups in Swindon who have helped make this possible.
The Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, whose charity is Brighter Futures, celebrated their appeal on the 25th of January where they were praised for securing annual funding for health services at the GWH and across Swindon. which includes Great Western Hospital and community health sites in Swindon.
Justin has been closely involved with the funding of the radiotherapy unit at the GWH, including working in conjunction with South Swindon MP, Robert Buckland to secure the remaining £13 million to complete the funding target for the unit. This comes in addition to the £29.573 million they secured for a modern Integrated A&E at GWH, including transitional care facilities.
Justin Tomlinson MP said, “I have been privileged in my role as MP to attend many of the wonderful Brighter Futures fundraising appeals. Without the people of Swindon & Wiltshire helping to raise these funds, we wouldn’t be celebrating here today. With a new Radiotherapy Centre in Swindon, we can stop patients and their family & friends having to travel to Oxford and back each and every day – this will make a big difference to those suffering from Cancer.”
