Football fan Justin Tomlinson MP joined fellow supporters to cheer on Swindon Supermarine as the non-league club gained promotion to the Southern League Premier Division.
Supermarine beat Evesham in the semi-finals, before embarking on the long coach journey down to Dorset to face Wimborne Town, where 120 minutes were played and neither team broke the deadlock. In dramatic fashion, Supermarine won promotion through penalties, after goalkeeper Josh King saved two of Wimborne’s spot kicks.
Swindon’s non-league club will now play in the Southern League Premier, where they will travel to play teams across the whole of the South of England, including London.
Justin Tomlinson MP said: “As a supporter of Supermarine, I am absolutely delighted for the club and all of its players, staff & volunteers. This achievement is fantastic news for local sport in Swindon and hopefully we will see many more football fans at the Webbswood Stadium next season!”
