Justin Tomlinson MP With Honda UK Apprentices
As part of the Coalitions programme for further education and skills, set out in the National Skills Strategy - for the first time, there will be an accessible vocational path to skilled employment. These measures will seek to reverse Labour's failure that a record 1 in 5 young people were unemployed by the time they left office.
For the young, apprenticeships will be a rite of passage to adulthood, no less valued than degrees. This has been supported by an additional £250 million, as we seek to increase the number of apprentices by 100,000. Crucially these will be real apprenticeships, respected by employers because under this government, level 3 will become the standard to which apprentices aspire.
Justin Tomlinson MP, "Having run my own business prior to becoming the MP for North Swindon, I am a real fan of apprenticeships. They help equip our next generation of workers will real life, applied skills, maximising their chances of securing a long-term career.
I have seen first-hand the excellent work of many local businesses in providing apprenticeships, and I will continue to support the further expansion of such schemes both in Swindon and through my work in Parliament."
