Justin Tomlinson MP, Vice Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Heart Disease has backed the importance of keeping healthy at work by marking Workout at Work Day.
Workout at Work Day is organised by the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy to mark World Physical Therapy Day and to help promote ways for people to be active in their daily lives.
A recent study by the CSP has found that 31% of people experienced pain at work at least once a week, with back pain reported as the most common physical problem (65%). The time taken off work by people with complaints like back pain, costs the UK economy £7.4 billion a year. These economic and personal costs could be greatly reduced by encouraging better working habits.
Examples of simple changes include: taking the stairs instead of the lift or going for a walk at lunchtime.
Justin Tomlinson MP says “Staying fit and active not only helps improve productivity at work, but also improves overall health. Workout at Work Day is a great opportunity to raise awareness of the importance of keeping healthy, as well as to highlight ways to fit exercise into a busy working day and this is something myself and staff will be supporting.”
