Justin Tomlinson MP Visits Local Employer RWE Renewables

Justin Tomlinson MP with RWE Renewables MD Julia Lynch-Williams

Justin Tomlinson MP today visited a major local employer, RWE Renewables. RWE employ over 400 local residents and are set to create 80 new jobs this year.

Responsible for RWE’s renewable energy projects, the team are constantly looking at ways to generate green energy to power our homes. This means established technologies like onshore wind farms, emerging technologies like offshore wind, and new technologies like tidal and wave power.

Justin met with the Managing Director of RWE Renewables, Julia Lynch-Williams, and her team to discuss the future of green energy in the UK and the role the Swindon staff play. The UK is committed to a renewable energy target of 20% by 2020, and RWE are key in delivering this as the UK’s largest provider of green energy.

Justin Tomlinson MP said “It is fantastic news that such a powerhouse of the UK’s green energy project is based right here in Swindon, employing local residents and creating jobs. As the windiest place in Europe, the UK is well placed to become the market leader in clean power, exporting it to our neighbours and reducing our reliance on gas and oil imports.”
