The company employ local NEETs (young people not in education, employment or training) and give them a chance to transform their lives.

They take anyone from the age of 16 onwards, without interview, give them paid employment with the security of a permanent contract and focus on giving them qualifications, work and the support they need to stay in work. This could be anything from counselling to childcare.

Northwood Environmental currently employs 76 people, with another 14 starting this week. They are looking to recruit 40 a month. 97% of the staff are under the age of 25 and most centre managers are under 30.

The firm recycle anything from paper to pvc windows. The money the receive from this recycling, subcontracted services, and funding for certain qualifications goes to support the young people they employ.

Managing Director James Jennings said "In a way we are recyling communities, taking those with challenging backgrounds and circumstances and giving them a chance.

"Swindon has the ability to solve its own NEET problem, we've just got to be creative about how. Above all we need the organisations and individuals prepared to provide the opportunities.

"Our goal is to be a feeder for the town's big employers like Honda. These employers have the advantage of being able to come down to our site and see our young people at work, see just what great work they can do."

Justin Tomlinson MP said "From speaking to the young employees here, it is clear that the opportunity they have been given is making a real and fundamental difference to their lives.

"Most striking was Chase Campion, the new centre manager who only 3 months ago joined on the shop floor. This just goes to show that if you have the skills, there are real chances for career advancement.

"I have been so impressed by the enthusiasm of those I have met and by what is being achieved here. James is right, it is amazing what can be done to help our young unemployed and the team at Northwood Environmental have my full support."

Northwood Environmental is looking to recruit 40 new people a month under the age of 25. If you are interested in the opportunity available, contact them on 01793 532200.
