Justin Tomlinson MP and Robert Buckland MP with Marie McCluskey
(Artistic Director) and performers from Swindon Dance
Justin Tomlinson, MP for North Swindon, has visited renowned local dance agency Swindon Dance to see first-hand the range of their work, from professional performances to the workshops they provide for the young people of Swindon.
Swindon Dance produces a wide portfolio of events and programmes, from their free ‘Urban Out!’ urban dance event at the big screen in the centre of Swindon that features choreography from names such as Banxy to their Youth Dance Academy that nurtures talented young dancers from the local area.
Through artist in residence Peter Anderson and his film ‘On Your Marks’, dancers from Swindon have also been involved in the Cultural Olympiad, a four year cultural celebration leading up to London 2012 designed to inspire creativity across all forms of culture, especially among young people.
Justin met with some of dancers Swindon Dance’s fantastic programmes support, enjoying an incredible routine built around a hat and dropping in on four talented young women from Swindon rehearsing in the auditorium.
Justin Tomlinson MP said “Swindon Dance is a real jewel in the crown for our town, offering an excellent range of dance and cultural activities, for which I have been a long-standing supporter both as the MP and formerly as a Councillor. Swindon Dance continues to evolve and I will do all I can to support them in securing external funding, and to promote work directly in our local communities, tapping into the growing enthusiasm for their extensive programme of events and activities.”
