Justin Tomlinson MP Visits Swindon Job Club At New College

Friend and Jo Tomlinson

Justin Tomlinson MP last Friday visited the weekly Job Club held at New College that aims to provide support and help to those looking for work.

The Club is staffed entirely by volunteers, including local Councillor Mary Friend, and Jo Tomlinson, Justin’s wife, who helps run and organise the Club.

They meet every Friday morning at New College between 10-12 and is open to all local people to drop in and receive help with their job search.  This week the Club was re-launched, thanks to the kindness of New College who have given the Club the use of a larger room with more computers, and the generosity of Barclays, who have donated £500 worth of equipment. This includes stamps, a printer, a phone with £100 credit and other stationery.

Justin said “The Job Club is a fantastic resource for those out of work in Swindon. The team of volunteers can provide help with job applications, CVs and interview preparation which, from speaking with those at the Club on Friday, have made a huge difference to those out of work.

“The bigger room and the items donated by Barclays have been a significant help, allowing the volunteers to provide greater support to those who visit the Club.

“I’d urge anyone who needs a little bit of guidance in job applications or who feels like they are not making progress in their job search to pop along one Friday between 10 and 12 and make use of the support and advice the volunteers can give.”
