Justin Tomlinson MP with Paul Ashman of the Swindon Music Service
Justin Tomlinson MP visited The Platform, a youth and music centre in the Town Centre.
The flagship centre, built within the former railway museum, opened in 2010 and provides a wide range of services to Swindon’s young people. Not only is it a place for young people to relax and meet friends, there are youth workers on site Monday-Friday 2-4.30 to provide support and the building is also a dedicated music centre.
The main hall provides a performance area and within the building is a recording studio, ‘rock pod’ where a group of bands can come together for lessons and to rehearse, and further activity areas.
This makes it the perfect venue for events, including DJ workshops, band nights, street art, dance workshops and circus skills. A comic workshop is planned for the 4th September.
Justin Tomlinson MP “The music facilities at The Platform are fantastic and this is key to drawing young people into the youth centre. The Rock Pod is really impressive, I can see why local bands come to use it! It is an excellent space for young people to use and from the list of events and activities on offer, it is clear they make the most of it.”
