Justin Tomlinson MP with Warneford Headteacher John Saunders
Justin Tomlinson MP today visited Warneford School in Highworth to meet with Headteacher John Saunders and to look around the school.
The visit was a good opportunity to discuss Warneford's recent change to acadamy status and the effect this move has had in terms of increased funding and more freedom for the school to provide the high quality education it is known for. The discussion enabled comments on this process as well as on the relationship between the school and the local authority to be raised. Justin was also able to discuss his campaign to see compulsory financial education in schools which has now seen signatures on the online petition pass the 100,000 mark.
Justin then had the opportunity to look around the school and hear about the work of the staff and students. He dropped in on a chemistry class preparing for GCSE exams, a business studies group creating their own audio adverts and a food technology class busy making vegetable soup.
Justin Tomlinson MP said "I am delighted to be visiting Warneford School and seeing first hand the fantastic education and opportunities they provide. I have been very impressed by all the different things I have seen today, from cooking to chemistry, and the fantastic facilities Warneford has. As MP and as a local resident I regularly visit every school in my constituency as I think it important to be visible and accessible to young people."
